Why Georgia football’s Carson Beck is potential No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft

As of right now, the 2025 NFL Draft is not looked at one that has a ton of talent at quarterback, but with the 2024 draft wrapped up, people are now looking ahead, and some believe that Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck will be the clear top quarterback by the time next year’s draft comes around.

“I think he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick,” an anonymous SEC defensive coordinator said, via Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. “A few things really stood out to me after playing him. He runs better than you think because he doesn’t do it often and he has such a quick release. He gets rid of it fast as s**t. And he’s really intelligent. He’s one of the few quarterbacks who doesn’t look to the sidelines all the time. We were showing 0 (blitz) and he got them into a little quick screen. He’s really impressive.”

Carson Beck took over as the full-time starting quarterback for the Georgia football program in 2023 after Stetson Bennett departed. Beck threw for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions, while completing 72.4% of his passes, according to Sports Reference. Although Beck is at an advantage nearly every week due to the talent on Georgia’s roster, he still has displayed a decent amount of strengths that translate to the NFL game.

The fact that Beck is not dependent on looking to the sideline before each snap and can recognize what the defense is doing on his own is a great trait to have. Knowing that, it would not be a surprise to hear that Beck interviews well when he does go to the NFL Combine. He also has good traits, being listed at 6-foot-4 and 215 lbs with good arm talent.

“He played lights out against us,” a defensive coordinator of a top 25 team said, via Feldman. “He’s got that prototypical first-round QB look to him. His touch on the deep ball was tremendous. I don’t think there is a better quarterback in the country right now in terms of his size, accuracy, accuracy on the deep ball. I think he throws a better deep ball than Jayden Daniels.”

If Beck truly does have a better deep ball than Daniels, he should be someone that is near the top of the draft in 2025.

What other quarterbacks could compete with Carson Beck?

Beck is an obvious name to keep an eye on in the 2024 season with Georgia football. If he performs well, he should be in a good spot for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Two other names to watch next season are Quinn Ewers of Texas and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado. Ewers is known to struggle with the deep ball, but he has the physical traits that teams could fall in love with, so if he improves the deep ball accuracy, he could go high in the draft. Shedeur Sanders is known by many already due to being the son of Deion Sanders, and he has some traits to like as well, but has things to improve on too.

Some other names to watch are Cam Ward, Jackson Dart, Jalen Milroe and Drew Allar. Someone could come out of nowhere, like Jayden Daniels did last season as well.

As of now, Beck seemingly has the upper hand on the rest of the quarterbacks in next year’s class.
