Eliot Wolf reveals ambitious plan for third round draft pick Caedan Wallace

The New England Patriots were in need of a left tackle, so when they drafted Caedan Wallace, who has played on the right side for his entire career, it raised a few questions. 

But soon after the pick, Eliot Wolf spoke with the media and explained his decision. And it made things a lot more clear on why they took the right tackle. 

"He was a guy that we felt was athletic enough to possibly make the switch over to the left side," Wolf explained. "Really good pass protector, really took a huge step forward this year as a four-year starter. Could possibly play guard. Think he could be a. four position guy, but definitely feel like he can play on the left side."

Offensive tackles were a huge need for numerous teams so far this draft, so as many continued to go off the board as the Patriots third-round pick grew closer, they knew what they had to do. 

While there had been some conversations about moving back, they knew they wanted Wallace and so it made no sense to risk losing out on him. 

Plus the reason Wallace has played at right tackle is due to his former Penn State teammate, Olumuyiwa Fashanu, who was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round. 

"So athletically, there's no reason why he couldn't make the switch over there," Wolf said. "He's a really smart, dedicated kid that we feel can handle that. 

And it was on the pre-draft visit that the Patriots noticed all of this and knew he would fit in well. 

"He's a really impressive kid," Wolf added. "He was someone that we just got really comfortable with throughout the process. he's kind of a low key guy. Not high energy until he gets in between those white lines. And he goes after people."
