Phil Nevin Reacts to the Devastating Luis Rengifo News
USA TODAY Sports

The Angels have suffered through many devastating injuries throughout the season, and the trend continues as any key player hits the injured list the week.

Luis Rengifo was announced to miss the rest of the season over the weekend after suffering a bicep tendon rupture. The injury occurred while Rengifo was warming in the on-deck circle in the first inning of Thursday's game against the Guardians.

Rengifo is coming off of an American League Player of the Week honor. Halos manager Phil Nevin spoke to the media about the loss of the team's top infielder.

“I’m hurt, I’m upset for him. I miss him being out there for one, but you miss his personality. But I know he’s going to tackle the rehab head-on, and he will be good.” (Via Orange County Register)

During the week in which he won the Player of the Week, Rengifo hit over .400 with three home runs and seven RBIs. He was on pace for the best season of his career as he was one home run and RBI shy of his career high.

On the season, the infielder was also hitting.264 and was top two on the team in multiple major hitting categories.

"Hes so important to this dugout, the energy he brings and not just on the field," Nevin said. "But the good news is the timetable and that he should be ready for spring training next year. Its a pretty significant injury, as you know, and the rehab process is pretty grueling, but he handles things head on." (Via Orange County Register)

The Angels are going to need Rengifo to be ready for the 2024 season. The team is expected to lose Shohei Ohtani in free agency and just announced that they would be open to hearing offers for Mike Trout.

Rengifo is expected to be a key part of the lineup next year.
