Steelers Sights and Sounds: First Look at New Rookies

 The Pittsburgh Steelers took the field for the first time with their rookies on Friday. So, football is back. Well, it is somewhat back. Regardless, rookies on the offensive line Troy Fatuanu, Mason McCormick, and Zach Frazier all went to work on Friday.

They worked on run and pass blocking while accentuating their versatility throughout the day. In addition, rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson took the field with new wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni.

Wilson played both inside and outside at Michigan, spending 91% of his time in the slot as a junior in 2022 and 65.5% of his time in the slot last season, per Pro Football Focus.

Inside or out, he was Michigan’s most productive receiver in 2023. Wilson led the Wolverines in catches (48), yards (789) and touchdowns (12), as the clear top target in a very limited passing attack.

Defensive rookies took the field, too, but this is a spotlight on the offensive players and what they did on Friday in their NFL practice. There was nothing too dynamic to read into since there are no pads and in reality, the helmets really are not even needed for what they are doing at this stage in the offseason. But it’s the first part of the rookie team building for the Steelers this year.
