Veteran Italian tactician Cesare Prandelli has backed Fiorentina to aim high following a season where they finished runners-up on two occasions, in the UEFA Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia. Vincenzo Italiano has taken the Viola a step above in recent seasons, and Prandelli thinks the club possesses an immense desire to compete in Europe.

Interviewed by Tuttomercatoweb at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Prandelli shed light on Fiorentina and one player in particular.

“In Florence, there is a very good coach, who has ideas and knows how to prepare matches. The city has an immense desire to measure up to Europe and can put the team in position to take responsibility. For me, Fiorentina must aim high.”

Giacomo Bonaventura was one of the first players signed by Prandelli in 2020/21 and expressed his happiness at ‘Jack’ making it to Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad.

“I’m very happy, Jack deserves it. He has surprised everyone in recent years. With his determination and conviction, he managed to return to the national team, and I hope he can stay there for some time. Tactically he can play three or four roles after years of rigidity. He’s more flexible lately.”

He also named two other Serie A clubs he prefers in particular.

“There are several. But I go back to Thiago Motta and his Bologna. Monza and Fiorentina also play in a very proactive way.”
